October brings a lot of great classes for you to explore.
As always, we also have private lessons available to fit your schedule. To learn more or book a session, please contact Mary.
S.T.A.R Puppy (Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsible owner) – This class uses positive reinforcement and focuses on real-world skills rather than advanced obedience. Puppy: Basic commands (sit, down, come, leave it) plus handling exercises to prepare them for grooming and vet visits. It also introduces safe socialization with new people and other dogs. For the Owner: Education on basic puppy health care, preventing unwanted behaviors like nipping or jumping, and establishing a daily play and exercise routine.
Obedience – Obedience training establishes essential communication, safety, and manners through commands like sit, down, come (recall), heel, leave it, and place. Uses positive reinforcement, consistency, and short, daily sessions (homework) to build trust and teach your dog to listen in various situations.
Public Access – Prepares dogs to behave reliably in non-pet friendly, public environments by teaching manners, calmness, and focus amidst heavy distractions. Essential skills include strict obedience (hold, sit, down), ignoring people/food, and unobtrusive behavior under tables.
Games (Play & Train) – Obedience through Games – Play-based dog training that is effective because it speaks to the fundamental nature of dogs. We play fun games like tic tac toe, practice loose leash walking with an egg in a spoon, sits and downs with red light green light, and red rover recall.
Mystery Class – This dynamic course keeps your pup guessing by rotating through exciting activities every week. You and your dog will bond while building foundational skills through Treibball, Scent Work, Ragility (combination of rally and agility), Fetch, Tricks and fun canine games. Introduce your dog to new obstacles and challenges in a positive, encouraging environment.
Tracking – Is a canine sport that tests a dog’s natural ability to follow human scent, simulating search-and-rescue tasks. Dogs work in partnership with handlers on various terrains to locate dropped articles. This sport, popular for building confidence and mental stimulation, awards titles like Tracking Dog (TD) and Variable Surface Tracking (VST) through organizations like the American Kennel Club.
Scent Work – Confidence-building activity that taps into a dog’s natural hunting instincts. It involves teaching dogs to locate specific target odors (like birch or anise) hidden in containers, rooms, or outdoors, providing excellent mental stimulation.
Agility – Intermediate builds on foundational skills by introducing complex sequences, improved handling techniques, and increased speed. Key areas include mastering front and rear crosses, serpentines, and refining obstacle performance like weave poles and contact zones. Training focuses on better communication, handler positioning, and building confidence for longer, more challenging courses.
Agility – Beginning focuses on building foundation skills like focus, basic obedience, and body awareness through positive reinforcement. We start with simple tasks—tunnels, low jumps, and walking over planks. This class is fun and confidence building.
Tunnels & Jumps – Tunnel and Jumps Class is designed to teach dogs how to navigate agility equipment, specifically tunnels and jumps, while building their confidence, focus, and communication with their handlers. This class is ideal for dogs of various ages and experience levels, from puppies to adults, whether they’re beginners or have some agility background.
Puppy Obedience – Foundational process of teaching young dog essential manners, safety commands (like sit, down, come), and behavioral boundaries through positive reinforcement. It strengthens the human-canine bond, ensures safety and helps puppies learn to interact properly with people and other animals.
Urban Agility (Doggie Parkour!) – This unique training program is a twist on traditional dog agility teaching your dog how to navigate and conquer urban landscapes with confidence and grace while staying in the training yard. Dogs will learn to safely and effectively navigate a variety of everyday urban obstacles such as benches, stairs, curbs, fences, and even more creative challenges found in parks and city streets. Through tailored exercises that improve their balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills while having a blast in the process!
Tricks – A structured path to earn AKC titles that recognize their achievements in trick training, Novice Intermediate and Advanced. Each level requires dogs to perform a set number of tricks, demonstrating greater skill and control. Suitable for all breeds, ages, and skill levels, from puppies (4 months) to senior dogs.
Deter Pulling & Jumping – This class to help owners teach their dogs more polite leash manners and eliminate unwanted jumping behaviors. Focusing on two common issues: dogs pulling on the leash during walks and jumping up on people. Both behaviors can be frustrating, but with the right techniques and consistent practice, dogs can learn to behave calmly and politely.
